We have coached dozens of senior executives who have themselves been the targets of bullying or are frustrated and dissatisfied for different reasons. We have found this right across the organisational spectrum - small, medium and large (including the largest) public service, private sector and industrial organisations.
We have helped our clients come through some very difficult situations and helped them to develop their personal and leadership competencies.
What is Coaching? Purpose
To support the individual in clarifying personal and professional development goals, relevant to their current or future situation. To support the client in achieving these goals.
The Process
- Our coaching has been designed to fit in with busy working lives.
- During the sessions, clients report progress and use the coach as a sounding board and decide on priorities for discussion.
- The last minutes of a session are used for the client to decide what to do next.
- The first minutes of a session are used to review what has happened since the last session.
- The coaching contract is normally for four two-hour sessions with opportunities to decide to stop or extend the work if needed.
- The process moves through and back and forth between a number of stages:
- awareness
- intention
- choice
- commitment
- action planning
- review.
- We place emphasis on a safe, supportive and appropriately challenging relationship which encourages change and development in the client.
- Whilst our coaching methodologies include the emotional, physical and intellectual lives of the client, coaching is not counselling. Should in-depth psychological issues emerge we will discuss with the client, referral to an appropriate service.
Confidentiality
The sessions take place in a suitable, private location and are confidential between the coach and client. We maintain the discipline of regular supervision where we present case-work to a qualified Supervisor. The anonymity of the client is protected (usually by pseudonym) and written client notes have coded identifiers.
Professional Conduct
We consider that the most appropriate guidelines for best coaching practice are contained within the Ethical Framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and we measure our conduct against those standards.
